SHOWGROUNDS STAGES REPORT - 17th January 2026

Another busy Rallying Year got underway at the Royal Welsh Show Ground at Builth Wells, with the Newton & District organised Showground Stages. This year's event was sponsored by three-time British Rally Champion Matt Edwards, who also ran Car 0, and was set out over 10 stages at the 150 acre venue. The surface was a mix of gravel and tarmac with a total distance of 26.8 stages miles.

The event once again remained two-wheel drive only with also the controversial Cross Cars taking part, running on five of the stages and completing each once.

After a challenging day, where of the 58 entries only 44 finished, Dan Evans and Karolina Griffiths dominated the event, winning 7 out of the 10 stages, taking overall honours in their Nova finishing with a total time of 50.5 minutes. Dylan Davies and Llion Williams took second place, just 49.7 seconds behind in their Mk2 Escort, followed by Joseph Palmer and Steve McPhee in third, in their Nissan Micra K11.
