Payne and Walsh Take Plains Rally 2026 Victory Following Difficult Conclusion to Event

The 2026 Plains Rally came to a premature and sombre conclusion on Saturday following a tragic incident that resulted in the cancellation of the final three stages of the event. Everyone associated with the Plains Rally extends their deepest sympathies to those affected by the incident, as well as to the emergency services, officials, marshals, volunteers and competitors who dealt with an exceptionally difficult situation on the ground. Our thoughts remain with all those involved. Prior to the cancellation, competitors had enjoyed a fiercely contested battle through the forests of North Wales, with the leading crews separated by only seconds throughout the day.The event once again attracted a high-quality entry and provided some of the closest competition seen on the rally in recent years.

Following the Clerk of the Course’s decision to cancel the remaining stages, the results were declared based on the completed competitive mileage. Elliot Payne and Patrick Walsh were confirmed as overall winners in their Ford Fiesta Rally2 with a total time of 23 minutes 39 seconds. Matthew Hirst and Declan Dear finished a remarkably close second in their Škoda Fabia Rally2, just two seconds behind the winning crew after an intense day-long contest. Dommy Buckley and Mikey Wastling completed the overall podium in their Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.
